Krista Capehart, Pharm.D., a native of Winfield, West Virginia, joined the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy faculty as the Instructor in Community Pharmacy Practice in August of 2006. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating with distinction in May 2002. Dr. Capehart has focused her practice in community retail pharmacy concentrating on improving patient compliance and quality of life through patient counseling and education. She also has experience compounding medications, working with prescribers to customize prescriptions and meeting special needs of her patients.
In addition to teaching the compounding and practical dispensing labs at the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Capehart will be practicing at Fruth Pharmacy locations throughout the area. Her areas of interest include improving healthcare access in rural areas through expanded community pharmacy services, increased patient self-care awareness and knowledge, and enhanced counseling opportunities in the community setting. She is as faculty advisor for the UC SOP chapter of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Students of Pharmacy and will assist the students in participating in community projects to improve direct-to-patient pharmacy services within West Virginia.
