Renee McCafferty, MS, Pharm.D. joined the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy faculty in July as Associate Professor in Ambulatory Care. A native of Arkansas, she holds a Bachelors of Pharmacy and a Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and a Masters in Pharmacy Practice from Purdue University School of Pharmacy. Dr. McCafferty comes to UC SOP with ten years experience as an UAMS School of Pharmacy faculty member, and Director of Pharmacy Education for the South Arkansas Area Health Education Center. She provided direct patient care, while teaching pharmacy students together with medical students and residents in a clinic and hospital setting. She most recently practiced at the Appalachian Regional Healthcare in Beckley West Virginia.
Dr. McCafferty will establish her ambulatory care pharmacy practice with physicians, pharmacists and other providers for the Access Health clinics in Beckley. Her areas of interest include diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Dr. McCafferty plans to expand education depth and practice opportunities for West Virginia pharmacists by supporting the advancement of collaborative practice and exploring reimbursement for clinical services as the third party and legislative landscapes evolve.
