Dr. J. Shawn Jones joined the faculty of the School of Pharmacy in June 2006. She comes to UC from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Department of Epidemiology, Houston, TX. She received a B.A. in Studio Art from The University of Texas at Austin, a M.S. in Animal Science from University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology & Toxicology from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Her current research goal is to blend her education in pharmacology and her research experience in molecular genetic epidemiology to explore genetic differences responsible for individual variation in response to disease and treatment. Her current teaching goal is to improve the quality of graduate education in the biomedical sciences In 2001, Dr. Jones followed her Ph.D. with a 4-year fellowship at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where she successfully competed for an R25 Cancer Prevention & Control fellowship. Her work resulted in 6 peer-reviewed journal publications and several presentations at national meetings, including meetings of the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society for Preventive Oncology. Dr. Jones has a passion for teaching and improving the quality of graduate education in the biomedical sciences. While working on her Ph.D., Dr. Jones lectured in Pharmacology and Physiology to Physician’s Assistants, Respiratory Therapists and Health Information Services students. She is looking forward to teaching “Pharmacology” and “Human Response to Disease” to the students of the UC School of Pharmacy.
