Shelley Hoppe Schliesser, Pharm.D., joined the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy faculty in June as Associate Professor in Medication Informatics.  She received her Bachelors of Pharmacy degree and Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Toledo.  Dr Schliesser completed a pharmacy practice residency, followed by a drug information specialty residency from the University of Kentucky.  She joins the school with 11 years of experience as director of the Drug Information Center at Charleston Area Medical Center.  During her practice at CAMC, she has organized the drug information center, served on the Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee, educated pharmacy students and pharmacy residents, while addressing an array of drug quality related issues.  Her areas of interest include biostatistics, drug information and technology, alternative medicine and pharmaceutical industry impact on healthcare systems.

Dr. Schliesser will bring her teaching and practice expertise to the School of Pharmacy classroom and establish the Drug Informatics program at the school, while continuing to serve as director for the Charleston Area Medical Center Drug Information Center and the P&T secretary.  She plans to improve community and clinical pharmacy practice through expanding student drug evaluation expertise and preparing the students for life-long health informatics technology growth.
